 Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean to fat ratio)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise

Preparation:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Heat a skillet or grill to medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of American cheese on top of each patty.
  5. Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty with cheese on the bottom bun, and add any desired toppings.
