How to Make an
Upside Down Dates Cake at Home
Ingredients:
Dates as required
Prepare caramel sauce:
Sugar 1/3 cup
water 2-3 tablespoons
butter 60 gr
Vanilla Essence ½ teaspoon
Salt 1 pinch or to taste
Prepare the cake mix:
1 & ¼ cup all-purpose flour
Cinnamon powder ½ tbsp
salt ¼ teaspoon
yeast powder 1 teaspoon
¼ cup almond flour
200 g unsalted butter (room temperature)
powdered sugar 1 cup
Eggs 5 (room temperature)
vanilla essence 1 teaspoon
caramel syrup or honey
Preparation:
Halve the dates with a sharp knife, remove the pits and set aside.
Prepare caramel sauce:
In a saucepan add the sugar and water and turn on the heat, spread evenly and cook over very low heat until caramelized and brown.
Add the butter and stir well until the butter melts.
Add the vanilla essence, salt and whip well and place the caramel sauce in an 8-inch pan lined with parchment paper, spreading the caramel evenly in the pan.
Arrange the date halves, cut-side up, in a circle over the caramel sauce, covering the entire bottom, and set aside.
Prepare the cake mix:
In a bowl, place a sieve, add all-purpose flour, cinnamon powder, salt, baking powder and sift all dry ingredients together.
Add the almond flour, mix well and set aside.
In another bowl add the butter and beat well.
Add powdered sugar and beat well.
beat well the eggs one at time .
Add vanilla essence and beat until just combined (do not overmix).
Now add the dry ingredients and fold until combined.
Pour the batter into the pan with the dates and gently spread over the arranged dates and pat in several times.
Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C for 50 to 55 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
after removing from oven let cool completely
Slice, drizzle with caramel syrup or honey and serve!
